Contribute to KFMG 99.1

At the top of each hour we say: "KFMG is a 'listener-supported' service of The Des Moines Community Radio Foundation." That means that a significant portion of our revenues comes from people just like you. People who listen to KFMG and love what we do. Our absence from January through June of 2010 shows just how important that revenue is. Please consider helping KFMG to continue as "Your Community Voice" by providing financial assistance. You can easily do so by making a contribution with a credit card through our supporters at Red Truck Tickets. They are donating their services to us and are not taking any compensation from your contribution (other than passing through the credit card companies' processing fees). To donate using a credit card, please visit the Red Truck Tickets Contribution page.

You may also send a donation in the form of cash, check or money order directly to KFMG at the address on the Contact Us page.

Thank you very much for your support.

GEORGE WINSTON - Piano Benefit Concert - All Ages
Friday, October 9th, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. CDT

First Christian Church
2500 University Avenue
Des Moines, IA 50311

GEORGE WINSTON's piano music came to prominence in the 1980's with now-classic recordings on the Wyndham Hill label, such as AUTUMN, DECEMBER, and WINTER INTO SPRING. Growing up in Montana, he refers to his style as "rural folk piano." Influenced as well by his time in Florida and Mississippi, Mr. Winston incorporates R&B, rock, stride and jazz styles into his music. Other albums include LINUS & LUCY-THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI (1996), PLAINS (1999), which was inspired by his Eastern Montana upbringing, NIGHT DIVIDES THE DAY - THE MUSIC OF THE DOORS (2002), MONTANA - A LOVE STORY (2004) and GULF COAST BLUES & IMPRESSIONS – A HURRICANE RELIEF BENEFIT (2006).

The proceeds from this concert and merchandise will go to help two organizations, TheARTS@First, the fine arts ministries at First Christian Church in the Drake neighborhood, and to KFMG Radio FM99.1, "Your Community Voice." We are grateful to Mr. Winston for his kindness in doing this benefit concert.

Student Tickets - $15.00
Adult Tickets - $20.00

Summer of Change for KFMG
Posted in Station News
Hello KFMG listeners. Here’s some information about what looks to be a “Summer of Change” here at KFMG.

Many of you remember our battle with Truth Broadcasting over their attempt to move from Boone to Johnston several years ago. Well, they didn’t give up, and were recently approved by the FCC to move from Boone to Huxley. That still brings them close enough to Des Moines, that KFMG will be required to change frequency or go off the air. Fortunately, we have already been approved by the FCC to change frequency from 99.1 to 98.9. It’s just the next frequency down the dial!! We’ll give you as much notice about the move as we can, but it will likely occur within the next month or so.

As if that wasn’t enough, you are probably aware that the Hotel Fort Des Moines has been sold. It WILL, finally, close for renovation sometime this summer or early fall. By that time KFMG will need to find a permanent new home, as we will not be coming back to the Fort Des Moines once renovation has been completed.

We are still looking for space which is suited for a radio station. We need about 1500 square feet of space, which would ideally be divided into four or five rooms—although we could live with three. We’d most like to have space in or very near to downtown. Best would be a 9-12 story building with space for studios and offices on an upper floor, and rooftop access for our antenna.

AND, because we are currently in donated facilities, the new space needs to be donated, as well. If you have any ideas, suggestions or leads, PLEASE contact us via the KFMG website at kfmg991.org, or give us a call on the office telephone at 244-4145.

One Word After Another with Jim Autry
Posted in Station News
One of our most popular features. Yeah, it's poetry, but this isn't about Bambi in the meadow by a babbling brook ... it's totally up in your grill. Confrontational, emotional, powerful, and boy, does it ever make you think. This is GREAT stuff.

Take five and get a dose of Spoken Word every day at 3 a.m., 8 a.m., 3 p.m., and 9 p.m. CT on KFMG 99.1 FM and www.kfmg991.org.
